Nick Bodimeade
Nick Bodimeade was born in Richmond in 1957. He studied Fine Art at Wolverhampton. He now lives in Hamsey, West Sussex.
Nick Bodimeade has exhibited extensively across the south of the UK in group exhibitions and solo shows.
Nick Bodimeade's paintings immediately engage; the subject matter, the beach figures, dogs, trucks, trees and buildings represent the familiar and recognisable, but it is the taut composition of the canvas which immediately involves the viewer in the painting. There is a way in which the subject matter and the background vie for attention and the emphasis or reading shifts from one to the other. Drawn in, the eye moves around the canvas, controlled by the dynamics Bodimeade has created and absorbed in the geometry of the composition. Swift, confident strokes of paint in glossy colour define the subjects and then take them out again as closer regard of the surface of the canvas leads to abstraction from the subject.
