Dawn Stacey
Dawn studied Textile Design at Derbyshire Art College following which she gained an MA in sequential illustration and design from Brighton University. Since this time she has worked full-time, painting from her garden studio in Lewes, East Sussex.

Dawn has shown her work extensively in London and the south east and at galleries in Totnes and Dartmouth. She has been successful at several of the London and regional Art Fairs and her work has been particularly popular when shown at the Brighton Open House and Brighton Art Fair. She has recently had her work published in British Artists Now by Jacob Sutton.

Her subject matter falls into the areas of still life, landscape and seascape. Although inspired by particular scenes and locations her paintings diverge from the faithful representation and are concerned far more with evoking an atmosphere of time and place.

On travels or walks Dawn gathers objects and stores memories to call upon later. Selecting from these fragments she creates compositions which may recall a sunny Sunday or the first glimpse of morning light. Her paintings themselves piece together in a similar way; layering, incorporating collage and textured surfaces which pattern across the picture plane. Simple cut out shapes and a limited palette contribute to the final image which offers a clear impression of the place and experience, but closer examination reveals the multitude of images and sensations which inform and collectively make the whole.
