Michael Tarr was born and educated in Somerset, he trained at Somerset College of Arts and Technology and still lives near Taunton. He has worked in architecture, design and illustration but since 1997 has concentrated solely on painting.
Known for his city and landscapes of Italy and Somerset and for his still-life paintings it is his reponse to light and colour which unifies his work. Enjoying the contrast between the bright colour in strong, sunlit planes and the darkness beside, the geometry of shadows pattern his paintings.
Michael has exhibited at the arts centres in Bridgwater and Taunton, has shown in the R.A. Summer Exhibition on numerous occasions and regularly at the Royal West of England Academy where he was given an "Excellence in Watercolour" prize in 2009.
