Jenny Southam
Jenny gained a degree in fine art at Bristol Polytechnic (UWE) and initially specialised in bronze casting. She now works from studios at home and at Spacex in Exeter. Jenny works in terracotta making hand built figurative sculptures reminiscent of Staffordshire figures. The exploration of scale is an important part of Jenny’s practice, some pieces are just a few inches high whilst others are imposing figures two feet tall. Her work is celebratory in a quiet way, exploring domestic themes, the patterns, rituals and habits we adopt to keep our world sane. Her figures have an immediate connection with their activity and each other and engage with their frankness and humour. Jenny has exhibited her work in galleries and arts centres across the South West over the last ten years.
