Dylan and Mark offer two very different forms of escape in this summer exhibition.

Dylan Lloyd’s canvases are saturated with colour, with the lushness of a garden in glorious bloom. Spires of delphiniums and the stems of verbena tower above euphorbia and there is a sense of immersion in the garden, of a dense but delicate sensorial escape.

Painting his gardens in series, using an exaggerated depth of field and pixilated elements Dylan intentionally suggests photography and recording the passage of time. The works are however created from memory; having the appearance of a photograph, on inspection they morph to purely paint brushed on canvas.

Dylan studied Fine Art at Falmouth School of Art. He lives and works near Wimborne, Dorset and has a garden at Portland too. He exhibits in the UK and Portugal.

The paintings of Mark Rochester inspire a feeling of freedom; releasing a deep sigh with shoulders dropping, our eyes open wide to absorb the light filled landscapes before us.

Locating himself at the cliff edge Mark paints ‘en plein air’ capturing the geology of the North Devon coast, its tides and shifting skies. With light brushstrokes using his distinctive palette of rich mauves and aquamarine Mark not only describes the view in front of him but shares his experience too - the effect is liberating.

Mark Rochester graduated from Central School of Art and worked for over 30 years as a textile designer for top furnishing companies before returning to Ilfracombe to paint. He exhibits locally and in London and had two works hung in the  R.A. Summer Exhibition 2016.
