Caroline’s birds in black stoneware carry incised abstract patterns on their surface. Originally from a printed textile background, Caroline has always loved post war British textile designers and the freedom of their mark making and abstract pattern is an evident influence on her ceramic work.

In her hand built ceramics Caroline explores abstract mark making using textures and colour, after the second firing each piece is polished to create extremely tactile objects.

Caroline studied at Chelsea School of Art and then at Central Saint Martins, where she got a degree in Textile Design and graduated in 1989. She worked for many years as a freelance textile designer for fashion & furnishing fabrics before moving into ceramics about 10 years ago.
