Jo works in semi-porcelain using a series of traditional ceramic processes to create unique pieces. She takes advantage of the idiosyncrasies of the processes of both the hand-formed and the moulded, to produce vessels which reveal the gestural marks of the maker and the forms of wider scale production.

These signs of the making processes are an essential feature of the work. The stitches and edges that are usually an unwanted by-product of the casting technique are not just allowed to become part of the piece, they are encouraged and frequently highlighted with gold.

In terms of utility, all the pieces can perform as they should, yet they move beyond the purely functional to become three dimensional sculptural forms.
